01 Strong Money Recap — what got backed hard

Yesterday’s tape produced 20 strong steamers across 27 races (268 runners). The defining feature was the depth of contraction at the top end: two moves north of 54% and four more at or beyond the 50% mark. This was not a “one-track” day either; the money showed up repeatedly at Cork (IRE) and also made clear statements at Goodwood, Beverley and Yarmouth.

The biggest squeezes were on Alcaraz at Goodwood (51.00 to 23.00, 54.9%) and Xerling at Cork (21.00 to 9.50, 54.8%). Both moves were decisive in percentage terms, but the outcomes underlined a familiar point: headline contraction does not equal finishing position. At the next tier, Capitano Josepi (26.00 to 12.00, 53.8%) and She’s Too Kool (10.00 to 5.00, 50.0%) drew sustained support, with the former converting and the latter only managing third.

Goodwood also threw up a clear, tradable pulse on Light Of Dawn (6.50 to 3.50, 46.2%), while Beverley’s market leaned into multiple runners: Harb (7.00 to 4.33, 38.1%), Jez Bomb (31.00 to 19.00, 38.7%) and Beaujolais Nouveau (21.00 to 13.00, 38.1%). Cork was the volume venue for strong money, with repeated contractions including Justenzia (15.00 to 9.00), Cardiff By The Sea (41.00 to 26.00), Thumama Sands (41.00 to 26.00) and Lauderdale King (5.50 to 3.50).

Bottom line: The market made strong statements (20 qualifying contractions), but conversion was selective: only four winners, with multiple “big move” losers proving that price action is information, not permission to abandon discipline.

04 What It Means — practical execution and discipline, no fluff

  1. Treat “strong steamer” as a filter, not a bet. Yesterday delivered 20 qualifying moves but only 4 winners; the edge is in process, not in assuming inevitability.
  2. Respect that the biggest contractions can still be wrong on the track. Alcaraz and Xerling were the two hardest squeezes (both ~55%) and finished 10th and 7th. Use the move to sharpen your question (“why now?”), not to switch off selection standards.
  3. Separate “close but beaten” from “non-competitive.” Justenzia (2nd) and She’s Too Kool (3rd) indicate the money wasn’t random; Thumama Sands (15th) and Carry The Dream (9th) show how far a steamer can still miss. Your staking and tolerance should differentiate these outcomes.
  4. Prioritise repeat signals with accountability. Repeated support appeared with J A Stack (2 backed) and Seamie Heffernan (2 backed) but both returned 0 winners on the day; don’t overfit to names just because they recur in the steam list.
  5. Record the “winners profile” without pretending it’s a rule. The day’s conversions ranged from a major cut (Capitano Josepi, 53.8%) to a mid-30s move (Lauderdale King, 36.4%). The actionable takeaway is to capture the move cleanly and enforce entry/exit discipline, not to chase a single percentage band.
This is market intelligence, not a guarantee. Price contraction reflects where money went between 10am and the final price, and it can be right for the wrong reasons or wrong for the right reasons; outcomes will vary, and strong steamers can still lose decisively.
