DC Market Intelligence Report –Aug 22, 2026
Yesterday’s strongest bookmaker moves, the outcomes behind them, and the practical read for today’s market.
01 Strong Money Recap
Yesterday produced plenty of late confidence without much corresponding payoff. Across 47 races (436 runners), we recorded 20 strong steamers (defined as 10am to final price contractions of 15%+). The tape was busy, but the strike-rate wasn’t: only 2 of those steamers converted.
The headline move was Allegrino at Newmarket (July), hammered from 8.50 into 3.50 (58.8%) and sent off 3.00 SP. That was the cleanest “real money” signal on the day: a deep contraction, sustained into the off, and it delivered. Beyond that, the market’s biggest pressure points clustered around Killarney (IRE), where multiple runners were cut aggressively but failed to land.
Killarney provided the most instructive pattern: The Real Screamer (29.00 to 13.00), Jurality (26.00 to 13.00), Razmataz (21.00 to 11.00), Queen Of Astolat (23.00 to 13.00), and Fine Line (10.00 to 6.00) all attracted heavy support. That is repeated, track-specific backing rather than isolated noise—yet it still failed to translate into results on the day.
Elsewhere, the market pushed hard at bigger prices with limited return: Bearin Up at York (81.00 to 41.00) and Lakewood Rose at Kilbeggan (51.00 to 26.00) were both strong contractions from long odds, the kind of profiles that can indicate intent or improved expectation. Neither threatened the winner (10th and 7th respectively), underscoring that “backed” is not the same as “ready.”

Landed (2)
- Allegrino (Newmarket (July)) — 8.50 → 3.50 (58.8%), SP 3.00, won
- Thistle Nil (Hamilton) — 51.00 → 34.00 (33.3%), SP 41.00, won
Went Astray (18)
- The Real Screamer (Killarney (IRE)) — 29.00 → 13.00 (55.2%), SP 15.00, finished 9th
- Jurality (Killarney (IRE)) — 26.00 → 13.00 (50.0%), SP 17.00, finished 5th

- Lakewood Rose (Kilbeggan (IRE)) — 51.00 → 26.00 (49.0%), SP 26.00, finished 7th
- Razmataz (Killarney (IRE)) — 21.00 → 11.00 (47.6%), SP 13.00, finished 6th
- Queen Of Astolat (Killarney (IRE)) — 23.00 → 13.00 (43.5%), SP 19.00, finished 6th

03 Trainer & Jockey Support
Trainers
- Paul W Flynn — 2 backed / 0 won
- Tim Easterby — 2 backed / 0 won
- Denis Gerard Hogan — 2 backed / 0 won
- Rod Millman — 2 backed / 0 won
- Andrew Balding — 1 backed / 1 won
- Jim Goldie — 1 backed / 1 won
- Miss Niamh Carol Hennessy — 1 backed / 0 won
- Donnacha Aidan O’Brien — 1 backed / 0 won
- Hughie Morrison — 1 backed / 0 won
- Daniel McLoughlin — 1 backed / 0 won
- Henry De Bromhead — 1 backed / 0 won
- Martin Hassett — 1 backed / 0 won
The repeat support (two backed runners) concentrated on Flynn, Easterby, Hogan, and Millman, but none delivered a winner from the backed set. The only perfect returns came from single, isolated signals: Balding (via Allegrino) and Goldie (via Thistle Nil).
Jockeys
- Callum Hutchinson — 1 backed / 1 won
- Rhys Elliott — 1 backed / 1 won
- Ben Coen — 1 backed / 0 won
- Sam Coen — 1 backed / 0 won
- Duran Fentiman — 1 backed / 0 won
- Miss N C Hennessy — 1 backed / 0 won
- Gavin Ryan — 1 backed / 0 won
- Keithen Kennedy — 1 backed / 0 won
- Jack Doughty — 1 backed / 0 won
- Gina Mangan — 1 backed / 0 won
- Shane Foley — 1 backed / 0 won
- Mr Patrick Millman — 1 backed / 0 won
Jockey support was dispersed—mostly single occurrences—so there’s no credible “money rider” angle from this set beyond acknowledging that Hutchinson and Elliott were on the only two winners.
04 What It Means
- Respect the signal; price it correctly. Yesterday had 20 strong steamers and only 2 winners. That is exactly the environment where you must treat contraction as information, not permission to over-stake.
- Separate “day-long drive” from “late noise.” The cleanest example of sustained pressure paying off was Allegrino (8.50 → 3.50, SP 3.00). Use that profile as your benchmark for a move that held its shape into the off.
- Be wary when one venue dominates the tape without results. Killarney (IRE) produced multiple big contractions (e.g., The Real Screamer, Jurality, Razmataz, Queen Of Astolat, Fine Line) but no win among those listed; treat repeated venue signals as “market interest,” not automatic edge.
- Don’t confuse big-percentage moves at huge prices with high probability. Bearin Up (81.00 → 41.00) and Lakewood Rose (51.00 → 26.00) were dramatic on paper and still finished well down the field.
- Measure process, not anecdotes. Even with two clean winners (Allegrino, Thistle Nil), the day was defined by misses. The discipline is to keep selection criteria consistent, and stakes stable, when the market is active but outcomes are not cooperating.
