DC Market Intelligence Report –Jul 12, 2026

## 1) Strong Money Recap (Yesterday)

Yesterday threw up 15 strong steamers (our threshold: ≥15% contraction from 10am to final), spread mainly across Limerick, Newmarket, York, Ascot and Navan. The headline is straightforward: the market showed real intent — but intent wasn’t consistently matched by results.

The hardest push came at Limerick, where the tape was dominated by aggressive contractions:
Dialin For Dollars: 34.00 → 13.00 (61.8%)
Usuario Amigo: 21.00 → 9.50 (54.8%)
Ochtar Againn: 26.00 → 12.00 (53.8%)
God Of Thunder: 11.00 → 6.00 (45.5%)
Hosanna Power: 17.00 → 10.00 (41.2%)
Mawhibah: 8.00 → 5.00 (37.5%)

That’s a cluster of significant moves in one venue: the market was highly active and repeatedly decisive there.

Newmarket had fewer qualifiers but still delivered serious action:
Iron Lily: 34.00 → 15.00 (55.9%) (notably SP 11.00)
Sunset On Leros: 81.00 → 41.00 (49.4%) (drifted back to SP 51.00)
Subscription: 8.50 → 4.50 (47.1%) (finished at SP 3.25)

York was more mixed: steam arrived, but the closing price often moved again at SP (sometimes sharply):
Magic Boy: 19.00 → 11.00 (42.1%), SP 7.00
Trojan Sun: 21.00 → 13.00 (38.1%), SP 11.00
Gentle George: 67.00 → 41.00 (38.8%), then SP 67.00 (a full reversal)

Ascot and Navan contributed single/few-name conviction:
North View (Ascot): 29.00 → 17.00 (41.4%)
Deuteronomy (Navan): 15.00 → 9.50 (36.7%), then SP 21.00 (late drift)
Shesthedevil (Navan): 41.00 → 26.00 (36.6%), SP 23.00

Bottom line: the day wasn’t short of decisive support — but it wasn’t clean either, with several examples of late counter-moves at SP.

## 2) Landed vs Went Astray – keep it ruthless

### Landed (winners from the qualifiers list)
From the 15 strong steamers, only 2 won:
Magic Boy (York): 19.00 → 11.00 (42.1%), SP 7.00, won
The market didn’t just support it — it *kept* supporting it into SP. This is what “real” steam often looks like when it’s aligned across the day.
Shesthedevil (Navan): 41.00 → 26.00 (36.6%), SP 23.00, won
Solid contraction, and crucially it didn’t collapse late; it held enough of the move to validate the read.

### Went astray (lost despite strong steam)
The rest of the qualifier set is where the discipline gets tested. Standouts:

Dialin For Dollars (Limerick): 34.00 → 13.00 (61.8%), finished 13th
This was the biggest move of the day and it never threatened. That’s not “unlucky”; that’s a reminder that price contraction is information, not certainty.
Usuario Amigo (Limerick): 21.00 → 9.50 (54.8%), finished 11th
God Of Thunder (Limerick): 11.00 → 6.00 (45.5%), finished 10th
Hosanna Power (Limerick): 17.00 → 10.00 (41.2%), finished 11th

Limerick’s cluster was heavy on “money” and light on delivery.

Newmarket was also blunt:
Subscription: 8.50 → 4.50 (47.1%), SP 3.25, finished 4th
Supported all the way (even more at SP), still didn’t win.
Iron Lily: 34.00 → 15.00 (55.9%), SP 11.00, finished 5th

And the day’s clearest warning sign:
Gentle George (York): 67.00 → 41.00 (38.8%) but SP 67.00, finished 9th
Early/through-the-day steam that gets fully unwound at SP is the profile you do not want to be paying top dollar for.

## 3) Trainer & Jockey Support – who the money followed repeatedly

### Trainers most repeatedly backed (from strong steamers)
Three yards saw two separate qualifiers and returned a winner:
Julie Camacho: 2 backed / 1 won
Clive Cox: 2 backed / 1 won
Ian Williams: 2 backed / 1 won

Then the list that absorbed support but didn’t convert:
Mrs John Harrington: 2 backed / 0 won
Denis Gerard Hogan: 2 backed / 0 won
Jim Goldie: 2 backed / 0 won
Joseph Patrick O’Brien: 2 backed / 0 won
Richard & Peter Fahey: 2 backed / 0 won
Charlie Johnston: 2 backed / 0 won

Single-hit, perfect days (small sample, but it’s what the tape says):
Nigel Tinkler: 1 backed / 1 won
Patrick Magee: 1 backed / 1 won
Luke Dace: 1 backed / 1 won

### Jockeys most repeatedly backed (from strong steamers)
Repeat support with a conversion:
Lewis Edmunds: 2 backed / 1 won
George Wood: 2 backed / 1 won

Repeat support without a winner:
Nathan Crosse: 2 backed / 0 won
James Doyle: 2 backed / 0 won
Jack Cleary: 2 backed / 0 won
Jimmy Dalton: 2 backed / 0 won
Oisin Murphy: 2 backed / 0 won
Paul Mulrennan: 2 backed / 0 won
Jack Callan: 2 backed / 0 won
Saffie Osborne: 2 backed / 0 won

Single qualifier, single winner:
Chris Hayes: 1 backed / 1 won
Dylan Hogan: 1 backed / 1 won

The key read: yesterday’s market didn’t “stick” to one stable or one rider — it spread conviction, and the results were uneven.

## 4) What It Means – practical execution & discipline

1) Treat venue clusters as risk concentrations, not confidence multipliers. Limerick produced multiple huge contractions, but the outcomes were brutal. When one track dominates the qualifiers list, you’re not automatically looking at a goldmine — you may be looking at a day where the market is simply more active (and therefore more fallible) in one place.

2) Respect SP behaviour. Several names either strengthened into SP (e.g., Magic Boy, Subscription, Iron Lily) or saw meaningful late resistance (Sunset On Leros to SP 51.00; Deuteronomy to SP 21.00; and the extreme Gentle George reversal back to SP 67.00). Practically: if your process relies on the 10am→final move, you still need to be alert to whether the market *holds* that view at the off.

3) Big steam doesn’t equal big performance. The day’s biggest move (Dialin For Dollars, -61.8%) ran 13th. This is exactly why we size sensibly, avoid emotional escalation after “strong” signals, and stick to repeatable execution.

4) Follow repeated support, but don’t worship it. A few trainers and jockeys were backed multiple times; only some converted. Use repeat attention as a *filter* and a context layer — not a standalone reason to increase exposure.

This is market intelligence, not a guarantee. Steam identifies informed pressure and shifting probability; it does not remove variance, eliminate losing runs, or protect you from false positives.
